Experiments with Light & Sound

Chemiluminescence + Electromagnetic Induction + Cymatics + Ultrasonic Colloid Projection

Materials: food spices, speaker, chemicals, chemical equipment, bubble solution, electronics

winter 2014

Experiments with Light & Sound is interested in creating sound-and-light shows combining different material behavior and processes with projection. Experiments with physical and chemical phenomenons such as Chemiluminescence, Electromagnetic Induction, Cymatics and Ultrasonic Colloid Projection can give rise to visual and sonified experiences that play with new ideas for analog and digital performance interfaces and methodologies. This is a collaboration with Dogma Labs co-founder Benjamin Bacon. Benjamin Bacon is an American sound and media artist that works between New York, Beijing and Shanghai. This performance was designed for BYOB (Bring Your Own Beamer) Shanghai 2014 hosted at 1933老场坊. You can find more information about BYOB here.

* Chemiluminescence is the chemical process of short-term light generation without using an external power source.

* Electromagnetic Induction is the production of an electromotive force across a conductor when it is exposed to a varying magnetic field.

* Cymatics is the co-vibration of sound in matter.
